A trick a freind of mine taught me:
When taking pictures in low-light/high movement situations (such as a rockshow), theres a trick you can use to freeze motion really well and still catch abeint light and color using a lower speed film, such as ISO800 or even 400.
You set your shutter speed to 1/2 or even 1 full second, and turn your flash on. When you hit the shutter, the flash goes off and freezes the motion you were trying to capture onto the film, and the long exposure time catches all the ambeint light. You can get really vibrant colors out of stage lights and still freeze motion without any blur by doing this. It takes a pretty steady hand (or a stabilizing device, like a tripod) to catch the light w/o blur, but if you time it right, the prints look sick. I'd link you to some of his stuff, but i don't remember the site he had them on. I'll try and find it for you.
Cheers,
--Josh
